The Power of Technology

My friend's grandmother passed away recently and of course we went to pay our respects. The wake was at the St. Peter Chapels in Quezon Avenue.

Death isn't as sad as we think it is. It actually is quite funny, especially if there are business ads like this.

Inclusive in some packages in this funeral parlor is the chance to share the wake with friends and family all over the world. No need to come home and pay respects, it's just a click of a finger away. This is what I call the power of technology.

At some point it makes perfect sense, especially if your loved ones can't come home to see your the departed for the last time. a big part of me however thinks it's ironic and I'm alternating between laughing and being saddened.

By the way, that comes with free WiFi. For those on bereavement leave, you can actually take your work with you to the "lamay". Sheesh.

New Year's Resolution

I've always believed I have the gift of gab. But if it is truly a gift, I should nurture it and not let it go to waste.

1. I will think before I speak.
In the past I often let my emotions go and say whatever I want. I always justified that by saying I only mean what I say but many times I know I say things just to spite or hurt people. If to hurt someone because of what I have to say is inevitable, I will make sure it is well-meant and well-said. Word choice does matter.

2. I will stop swearing.
Sometimes I shock myself with what comes out of my mouth and how fould my words could be. I should learn new words: F stands for 'fudge', S stands for 'shoot' and just completely avoid Filipino cuss words! Sometimes creatively transitioning from Tagalog bad words to it's sound-alikes only make things worse.

3. I will learn to keep quiet when I have to.
A song worded it well: 'you say it best when you say nothing at all'. I just have to know when to keep my silence and I'm sure it'll be a more effective that prattling away.

It's November but I have some New Year's resolutions. I guess it's not to early to start. I just want to be a better person.

Still Heart

I said I wasleaving but I'm taking it back. My heart just isn't in it. Not yet.
Everytime I thought of leaving, my heart was breaking and I could feel the tears just waiting to flow. I drove myself crazy. I have left previous companies before, but none ever made me feel like I wanted to breakdown.
It's just not worth it. If I move, I lose all my Saturdays and I have to fight my way through the MRT and deal with the long distance to Makati.
I do feel like I'm passing up an oppurtunity but as a good friend had said, I should trust that there would be more to come. And maybe next time it won't rip me up inside.
My heart is still right now. My heart is in place.

Confused

So I said I was leaving IBM. Why is it so difficult to actually give my resignation letter then? Why do I feel like I'm being ripped inside?

I want to stay but I feel I have to go.

Jumping off a cliff

Well at least that's what it feels like. I've decided to take the offer at John Robert Powers. It's a different job with a lot more responsibility and I'm scared to bits. But I feel I have to do this.

IBM is my comfort zone. I can do the job with my eyes closed. The people are great, well most of them are. Reporting to the Commonwealth site takes 15 minutes. So why am I going for a job in Makati, for a job that I might just find myself drowning in? Because being comfortable does not exactly make things easier.

I owe it to myself, this career move. I need to prove to myself I can do this.

But I do feel like crying.

Travelling Shoes On

I had to search online for possible teambuilding venues. In my research I found instead places I wish I had time and resources to visit. The Philippines is a wonderful country and very, very beautiful. I will make sure we, Adrian and I, get to see as much of it as possible.

I just know where our money is going to.

Places I should...would visit:
1. Hundred Islands, Alaminos City
- So sue me, but I've never been there. I bet it'll be a hoot to literally island hop.

2. Sagada
- As long as I don't have to go through caves, I'm fine. I'm just going to enjoy the cold and visit my friend Krish.

3. Blue Lagoon, Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte
- I'm sure the LONG drive will be worth it.

4. Unica Flora Lucban, Quezon
- Just because I heard it's un unknown place but a must see.

5. Sitio de Amor San Pablo, Laguna
- I saw pictures on the net and it's beautiful. If ever I dare to go camping, I'd do it there.

6. Bohol
- Chocolate Hills and the tarsier: who can go wrong with that?

I'm adding to this list. Let me just surf the net some more.

Maybe, I'd get lucky and actually find a teambuilding venue too.

Interviewee

I went to an interview that was set at 930 am. The interview being in Makati, I left the house uber-early not wanting to have to use the old and worn: "I'm so sorry to be late. Traffic was so bad". I was there at 9 am, announced myself and waited. At 930, the receptionist didn't even call the person I was meeting. At 945, I was peeved. Then they told me if I minded waiting for another 5-15 minutes. I hate rhetorical questions! Of course I minded but it's not like I could come out and say that.

I waited but I was pissed.

Then I was interviewed. I forgot about having had to wait. (I actually didn't, but that's not what's important) Now I'm in a conundrum.
